Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA is The Ordinary's attempt to bottle the skin's own hydration system, and it is one of the smartest budget moisturizers on the market for what it sets out to do. The name is literal: the formula is built around the actual components of skin's Natural Moisturizing Factor — a full panel of amino acids (arginine, glycine, serine, alanine and more), PCA and sodium PCA, sodium lactate, urea and sugars — the exact humectant cocktail your corneocytes use to stay supple. Layered on top are barrier lipids (linoleic and oleic acids, triolein, lecithin) and low-molecular-weight sodium hyaluronate, so it hydrates on two fronts: drawing water in and helping the barrier hold it. It is fragrance-free and free of actives, which is the point — this is a foundational daily moisturizer, not a treatment. Do not expect anything for pigmentation, wrinkles or breakouts. For normal to dry skin it is an excellent, quietly sophisticated value; very oily skin may find the triglyceride-and-fatty-acid base slightly heavy for daytime.
