What is it?

Histidine (гістидин, His) — an essential aromatic amino acid. In INCI: Histidine. Naturally found in the skin's NMF. The enzyme histidase converts it into urocanic acid (UCA) — one of the key components of NMF that absorbs UV-B and participates in regulating the pH of the stratum corneum. Histidine is also an effective chelating agent — it binds metal ions.

NMF-active and antioxidant component in serums and creams. Often included in complex amino acid formulations. Particularly valuable in products for sensitive skin and formulas with metal chelating needs.

Key Benefits

Precursor of urocanic acid (NMF)
Histidine is a direct precursor of UCA — an important NMF component that absorbs UV-B and maintains the acidic pH of the stratum corneum. Topical histidine replenishes the UCA supply in the skin and restores the natural UV protective system of the stratum corneum.
Antioxidant and chelating agent
The imidazole side chain of histidine neutralizes free radicals and binds heavy metal ions (Cu²⁺, Fe²⁺) — preventing oxidative reactions that accelerate skin aging. Effective protection against pollutants.
Hydration and support of NMF
As an NMF-amino acid, it retains moisture in the stratum corneum and restores the amino acid balance depleted by external factors and aggressive products.
