Our verdict

This lotion's calling card is what sits in the first slot: birch sap (Betula platyphylla japonica juice) replaces water as the base at around 70%, which is a genuinely different formulation choice rather than a marketing flourish. Birch sap brings its own sugars, amino acids and minerals, and the result is a light, oil-free gel-lotion that hydrates without any greasy residue — well suited to oily, combination and blemish-prone skin that finds conventional creams heavy. Glycerin, betaine, sodium hyaluronate and sodium lactate carry the humectant load, with allantoin and panthenol for soothing. Where it loses points is the fragrance. Parfum is listed, along with limonene and citral — two fragrance components that are common contact allergens and must be declared for that reason. In a product otherwise aimed at sensitive, easily-irritated skin, that is an avoidable weakness, and it is the main reason to hesitate if your skin is reactive. It is also genuinely light, so dry skin will want something richer on top. For oily skin that tolerates fragrance, it is a pleasant, effective daily hydrator.
