CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is the reference point almost every dermatologist reaches for when recommending a no-nonsense barrier cream — and the formula earns that reputation. Its backbone is a trio of skin-identical ceramides (1, 3 and 6-II) paired with cholesterol and phytosphingosine, the exact lipid ratio your stratum corneum uses to hold itself together, while glycerin and hyaluronic acid pull in water and petrolatum with dimethicone seal it in. The result is a genuinely repair-focused occlusive-emollient hybrid, not a marketing story. What keeps it from a top score is breadth rather than danger: the emulsifier system (ceteareth-20, cetearyl alcohol) raises a mild irritation flag for reactive skin, and there is nothing here for pigmentation, texture or active anti-aging — this is a barrier cream, full stop. For dry, dehydrated, compromised or eczema-prone skin it is close to ideal; for oily or acne-prone skin the richness may be more than your face needs, and the lighter lotion version is worth considering instead.
