Our verdict

Relief Sun became a genuine phenomenon for a specific reason: it is one of the few high-SPF sunscreens that feels like a skincare serum rather than a chore. The filter system — a modern Japanese/Korean combination including Tinosorb S and Uvasorb HEB alongside conventional UV filters — provides broad, high-level SPF50+ PA++++ protection while drying down with essentially no white cast and no heavy, greasy finish. Behind the sunscreen function sits an unusually generous skincare formula: niacinamide for tone and barrier support, adenosine for gentle anti-aging, and a genuine fermentation complex (multiple rice, soybean and pumpkin ferments) alongside rice extract and green tea for antioxidant and soothing benefits. It is a legitimately good daily moisturizer wrapped around a legitimately good sunscreen. Two honest notes. The filters used are approved and common in Asia but not all are FDA-approved in the US, so cross-border purchasers should check current regulations. And while it plays well under makeup, applying too thin a layer undermines the SPF rating — the usual sunscreen under-application problem applies here as much as anywhere.

Frequently asked

Why is Relief Sun so popular compared to other sunscreens?
It combines high, broad-spectrum protection (SPF50+ PA++++) with a genuinely pleasant, no-white-cast, lightweight finish, plus a real skincare formula built around it — niacinamide, adenosine and fermented rice extracts. Most sunscreens make you choose between good protection and good skin feel; this one does not force that trade-off as much.
Is it available and legal everywhere?
The filter combination is approved and standard in South Korea and much of Asia, but not every filter in the blend is FDA-approved for sale in the United States. If you are buying from outside Korea, check current import and regulatory status for your country.
How much should I apply for the SPF to work as labeled?
Use roughly a quarter-teaspoon (about 1.2ml) for the face alone to hit the tested SPF level — most people apply far less than this. Under-application is the most common reason any sunscreen, including this one, underperforms its labeled protection in real use.
What is the score based on?
The score comes from the same Pure Moonlight ingredient analyzer used across the whole site. It weighs safety, barrier support, acne and comedogenic risk, and active-ingredient strength, so this product's score is directly comparable to any ingredient page here.
