Our verdict

Hydro Boost is one of the best-selling drugstore moisturizers for a reason: the texture. It's a genuinely lightweight, bouncy water-gel that absorbs fast and leaves a smooth, non-greasy finish, which is exactly what oily and combination skin tends to want from a daily moisturizer. Look past the marketing, though, and the formula is simpler than the 'hyaluronic acid' label on the jar suggests. The real workhorses are glycerin (a proven, excellent humectant) and a heavy silicone system — dimethicone and several silicone crosspolymers — which is what creates that signature silky, blurring feel. Sodium hyaluronate is present, but it sits near the end of the ingredient list, after the preservatives, so it's playing a supporting role rather than being the star the packaging implies. The formula has no ceramides, no barrier lipids and nothing that meaningfully repairs a compromised barrier, so it hydrates well but doesn't do much structural work. The biggest caveat is fragrance: this version contains added fragrance (plus a blue dye), which is the single most common cause of cosmetic contact allergy. For resilient, oily or combination skin that wants a light, pleasant daily gel, it's a solid, affordable pick. For sensitive, reactive or very dry skin, a fragrance-free option with barrier-repair ingredients is the better choice.
