Our verdict
This is the unscented version of Klairs' original Supple Preparation Toner, built specifically for people whose skin reacted to the small amount of essential oil in the original — the reformulation strips that out entirely while keeping the rest of the ingredient list intact. What's left is a genuinely thoughtful, low-irritant hydrating toner: betaine and glycerin for humectant hydration, licorice root and centella asiatica for calming, beta-glucan and panthenol for barrier support, and a supporting cast of amino acids (arginine, lysine, proline) that function as additional humectants. Sodium ascorbyl phosphate appears as a stable, low-irritation vitamin C derivative, and copper tripeptide-1 shows up near the very end of the list — present, but almost certainly at a marketing-relevant rather than clinically meaningful concentration given its position. The formula is essential-oil-free, fragrance-free, and built with sensitive skin as the clear priority throughout, which is consistent with the brand's broader 'simple skincare' positioning. The realistic read: this isn't a treatment toner built around one powerful active, it's a gentle, well-rounded hydrating step that layers calming and humectant ingredients rather than delivering a single dramatic result — which is exactly the point for the sensitive skin it's designed around.
