Zinc PCA
The zinc and natural amino acid PCA compound — zinc PCA regulates sebum production, suppresses acne bacteria, and reduces enlarged pores without drying out the skin. An ideal active for oily and combination skin.
What is it?
Zinc PCA (zinc pyrrolidone carboxylate) — a salt formed from the combination of zinc ions (Zn²⁺) and pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (PCA). PCA — a natural amino acid, a component of the skin's natural moisturizing factor (NMF). Zinc ions — a regulator of 5α-reductase activity (an enzyme that controls the synthesis of dihydrotestosterone → a stimulator of sebaceous glands), an antibacterial agent against C. acnes, and a regulator of keratin production. The PCA part adds moisturizing properties, softening the potential drying effect of zinc. Result: reduced sebum production without drying, which distinguishes zinc PCA from more aggressive sebum regulators.
Toners, serums, and moisturizers for oily and combination skin. The concentration is usually 0.1–2%. Well combined with niacinamide (synergy in sebum regulation), salicylic acid, and BHA. Suitable for daily use in the morning and evening.

Main Actions
Zinc in cosmetics appears in several forms: zinc oxide (SPF + antibacterial), zinc PCA (sebum regulation + antibacterial), zinc gluconate, zinc sulfate. Zinc PCA is considered the best form for sebum regulation due to the PCA carrier, which simultaneously moisturizes and facilitates the penetration of zinc ions. Zinc oxide — primarily SPF. Zinc gluconate — a milder anti-acne option in oral supplements.
