Soluble Collagen (INCI: Soluble Collagen) — native or minimally hydrolyzed collagen in water-soluble form. Structure: triple helix (Gly-X-Y) n — three polypeptide chains (alpha-1, alpha-2). Difference from hydrolyzed collagen: retains triple helix (MW 100-300 kDa) vs small peptides (MW <5 kDa). Does not penetrate the dermis (MW too high) → acts on the surface of SC. Mechanism: adsorption on SC → formation of a protective protein film → reduction of TEWL → hydration; moisture feedback through amino acids (hygroscopic Gly, Ser). Sources: bovine corium, marine collagen (fish). Marine collagen: Type I predominantly, no risk of BSE/prions.
