What is it?

The INCI group "sh-Polypeptide" includes recombinant proteins: sh-Polypeptide-1 — a pro-collagen analog (stimulates collagen synthesis by fibroblasts), sh-Polypeptide-3 — an elastin analog, sh-Polypeptide-9 — a TGF-β1 analog (transforming growth factor beta-1, a key regulator of matrix synthesis). They are produced by microbial or yeast recombinant expression. Used in concentrations of 0.001–0.01% (very powerful signaling molecules).

Stimulation of collagen synthesis through TGF-β signaling

TGF-β (transforming growth factor beta) — one of the main regulators of collagen synthesis in the skin. sh-Polypeptide-9 (TGF-β analog) activates TGF-β receptors on fibroblasts → increased synthesis of collagen I and III, decreased activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) that break down collagen.
