What is it?

Marula Oil is cold-pressed from the seeds of the marula fruit (Sclerocarya birrea), an African tree. INCI: Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil. Composition: 70–78% oleic acid (omega-9), 4–7% linoleic acid (omega-6), flavonoids (catechins, procyanidins), vitamin C in fresh oil. Non-comedogenic (index 3–4), but lighter than most oils due to the predominance of oleic acid.

Night oils and serums for moisturizing and nourishing the skin. Effective for dry and dehydrated skin. Suitable as a finishing oil in the "sandwich" method (under or over cream).

Key Benefits

Intense hydration and barrier restoration
The high concentration of oleic acid (omega-9) makes marula oil an excellent emollient that restores the lipid composition of the stratum corneum. Strengthens the barrier, reduces TEWL. Absorbs quickly without a greasy film — due to a smaller molecule compared to argan oil.
Antioxidant protection and antibacterial action
Marula flavonoids neutralize free radicals and protect against oxidative stress. Studies confirm antibacterial activity against S. aureus and P. acnes — thus, the oil may help with acne-prone skin. Stable to oxidation due to natural antioxidants.
Light texture for any skin type
Although marula oil contains more oleic acid (heavier, more nourishing) than linoleic (lighter, for oily skin), it is significantly lighter than shea butter or avocado oil. Recommended for normal, dry, and combination skin. For oily skin — with caution in small amounts.

Marula vs Argan vs Rosehip

Argan oil (oleic 43%, linoleic 37%) — balanced, suitable for oily skin. Rosehip oil (linoleic 45%, alpha-linolenic 22%) — for regeneration and scars, shorter shelf life. Marula oil (oleic 75%) — the most nourishing, for dry skin. All three are excellent oils with different fatty acid profiles.
