What is it?

Lactobionic acid — PHA (Polyhydroxy Acid), a derivative of lactose. The large molecule penetrates slowly and gently exfoliates without deep irritation. It is also a metal chelator, moisturizer, and antioxidant. In INCI: Lactobionic Acid.

Used in gentle toner-peels, serums, and night creams for sensitive or AHA-intolerant skin. Effective for psoriasis, rosacea, and post-procedure care. Unlike AHA — less photosensitizing.

PHA vs AHA vs BHA

PHA (lactobionic, gluconolactone) — the mildest, suitable for sensitive skin. AHA (glycolic, lactic) — more effective but more irritating. BHA (salicylic) — for pores and acne. The choice depends on skin type and sensitivity.
