What is it?

Idebenone — a synthetic derivative of ubiquinone (CoQ10) with a shorter side chain. Developed for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, later discovered as a powerful cosmetic antioxidant. INCI: Idebenone. Molecular weight: 338 Da. Lipophilic, penetrates well into cells. Effective at concentrations of 0.5–1%.

Anti-aging serums and creams for protection against photoaging. Especially effective in combination with vitamins C and E. Recommended for skin with signs of photodamage and premature aging.

Key Benefits

Super powerful antioxidant protection
Pinnell et al. (2005) study compared 5 leading antioxidants and identified idebenone as the most effective by "Environmental Protection Factor" (EPF = 95). For comparison: vitamin E — EPF 80, CoQ10 — 55, caffeine — 41. Neutralizes free radicals and protects cell DNA.
Mitochondrial protection and cellular energy
Idebenone supports mitochondrial function even in low oxygen conditions (CoQ10 cannot). Restores cellular energy, supports ATP synthesis in fibroblasts. The result — more active collagen synthesis and regeneration.
Reduction of signs of photoaging
Clinical studies confirm: idebenone reduces fine wrinkles, improves texture and evenness of tone with prolonged use. Effective in combination with retinol for comprehensive anti-aging care.

Idebenone vs CoQ10 (Ubiquinone)

Idebenone — a synthetic analogue of CoQ10 with better permeability and effectiveness. CoQ10 is natural but less stable in formulations. Idebenone is effective even in low oxygen — an advantage for deep skin layer cells. Both are excellent antioxidants, but idebenone is considered more powerful.
