What is it?

Ficus Carica (Fig) Fruit Extract (INCI: Ficus Carica Fruit Extract) — an aqueous or alcoholic extract of fig fruits. Key components: ficin (ficin) — a proteolytic enzyme that breaks down proteins of dead cells; anthocyanins (pelargonidin, cyanidin) — powerful antioxidants and brighteners; chlorogenic acid — a tyrosinase inhibitor; rutin (quercetin-3-rutinoside); amino acids; organic acids (citric, malic, oxalic). Tannins. Fig Leaf Extract is also used (leaves — higher content of psoralen).

Products for tone brightening, gentle exfoliants with enzymes, products for mature skin, antioxidant serums.

Key Benefits

Ficin — a natural enzymatic exfoliant
Ficin — a proteolytic enzyme from fig that breaks down keratin bonds between dead cells. Mechanism: hydrolysis of peptide bonds in corneodesmosomes → natural exfoliation without abrasives. The effect is milder than chemical AHA/BHA — ideal for sensitive skin. With regular use: improved texture, skin radiance, reduced unevenness. Synergy with organic acids from the fruit (citric, malic) — additional AHA effect. Does not irritate the skin at proper concentrations.
Chlorogenic acid and anthocyanins — tone brightening
Fig extract contains chlorogenic acid — a powerful tyrosinase inhibitor (key enzyme in melanin synthesis). Anthocyanins: inhibition of lipid peroxidation and protection against UV-induced pigmentation. Rutin: antioxidant, strengthens blood vessel walls (reduces redness). Combination of chlorogenic + anthocyanins + rutin = comprehensive brightening mechanism. Reduction of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). More even skin tone with regular use over 4-8 weeks.
Antioxidant complex of polyphenols
Ficus carica — one of the plants with the highest polyphenol content among fruits: ORAC value of the extract in the top 20 fruits. Anthocyanins, chlorogenic acid, rutin, gallic acid — mutual enhancement of antioxidant protection. Protection against photoaging: neutralization of singlet oxygen and OH radicals. Anti-inflammatory action: reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1beta, TNF-alpha. Support for collagen synthesis through protection against oxidative degradation. Rejuvenating effect with systematic use.
