What is it?

Dipropylene Glycol (DPG) — a synthetic glycol, an ether of propylene glycol. It serves as: a solvent (dissolving essential oils, perfumes, silicones, and other hard-to-dissolve components), a moisturizer, and a viscosity regulator. Lower toxicity than propylene glycol. In INCI: Dipropylene Glycol.

Standard solvent and moisturizer in K-beauty toners, essences, fragrance balms, and body products. Often found alongside propylene glycol or butylene glycol.

Key Benefits

Powerful solvent for actives and fragrances
Dissolves complex ester mixtures, perfumes, and hard-to-dissolve active components, ensuring their stable distribution in the aqueous phases of formulations.
Hydration without greasiness
Hygroscopic glycol that attracts moisture and retains it in the stratum corneum — light hydration without an occlusive feel.
Texture and application improvement
Reduces the viscosity of formulations, improving their application and spread on the skin — provides the characteristic "slip" of K-beauty essences.
