What is it?

Curcumin — the main active component of turmeric (Curcuma longa) that gives it a yellow color. INCI: Curcumin or Curcuma Longa Root Extract. MW 368 Da. Lipophilic, poorly soluble in water — liposomal curcumin or nanoparticles are used in cosmetics for better permeability. Concentration: 0.1–1%.

Brightening and antioxidant serums. Products for inflammation and post-acne. Combines with vitamin C, alpha-arbutin, and kojic acid for comprehensive pigmentation correction.

Key Benefits

Brightening tone and inhibiting tyrosinase
Curcumin inhibits tyrosinase — a key enzyme in melanin synthesis. Reduces the formation of new pigment, gradually lightens existing spots. Effective for melasma and post-acne PIH. The effect is comparable to kojic acid at similar concentrations.
Powerful anti-inflammatory action
Curcumin inhibits NF-κB (nuclear factor — the main regulator of inflammation) and COX-2 (prostaglandin enzyme). Reduces inflammation in acne, rosacea, and atopic dermatitis. Clinical studies confirm its effectiveness in treating acne.
Antioxidant and protection against photoaging
Curcumin neutralizes free radicals and protects against UV-induced damage. Inhibits MMPs — enzymes that break down collagen under UV influence. Protects cellular membrane lipids from peroxidative oxidation.

Curcumin vs Turmeric Extract

Turmeric extract contains a mixture of curcumins (curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, bisdemethoxycurcumin) and essential oils. Pure curcumin — more concentrated, predictable effect. Caution: at higher concentrations, curcumin may stain the skin yellow — start with 0.1–0.3%.
