Chondroitin Sulfate
A sulfated glycosaminoglycan naturally abundant in skin, cartilage, and the ECM that attracts and retains water, supports structural integrity, and modulates inflammatory responses.
What is it?
A sulfated glycosaminoglycan consisting of alternating units of N-acetylgalactosamine and glucuronic acid, with sulfate groups at the 4 and/or 6 positions. Primarily sourced from bovine or shark cartilage, or produced biotechnologically.
Binds and retains water in the dermis, acts as a co-receptor for growth factors, modulates matrix metalloproteinase activity, and contributes to the viscoelastic properties of skin tissue.
